Behavioural Safety

'Behavioural Management' - a robust and mature approach to behavioural safety.

Hastam directors have developed a fresh approach to behavioural safety that addresses the limitations found in many other programmes.

Behavioural Management is Hastam's comprehensive and mature behavioural safety programme aimed at aligning people's behaviour to the safety aspirations of your business.

Based on comprehensive research and sound psychological principles, Behavioural Management avoids over-simplified platitudes and provides real substance to the processes of reducing the severity of injuries, increasing the mean time between accidents and preventing catastrophic events.

While we will ensure that you understand all the critical aspects of effective behavioural safety management, our approach seeks to build on your achievements and tailor our activities to your needs and available budget.

One key aspect of Behavioural Management is a series of motivational workshops on the theme of behavioural safety.

Jason AnkerHastam is privileged to have Jason Anker as a member of our team.

As the result of a fall at work, Jason has been paraplegic for the past sixteen years. The factual and moving story he tells is a timely reminder of the life-changing potential of an accident.

With the opportunity to question Jason regarding the details of this accident and its consequences, no attendee can escape the reality of human error or the tragic outcomes that can result from such events.

Effectively managing behaviours and addressing human factors is critical to improving or maintaining an excellent safety performance.

Whether you are looking to introduce a behavioural safety process or have one that is mature, Hastam can show you how to maximise the benefits from this type of approach.

NHS CASE STUDY

Hastam is currently working with an NHS Foundation Trust to assist them improve the safety and well-being of staff and patients. The Trust employs 2,500 staff providing medical and social care in the community.  The services provided by the Trust include community hospitals, out of hours drop in centres, medical assessments, care for those in police custody, and 24 hour care for people in their own homes. Much of this work is undertaken on a lone worker basis which creates a specific safety management challenge for the Trust as it covers an extensive geographical area. The Trust senior managers have recognised the need to address the human factor issues which critically impact on staff and patient safety. This project is aligned to the Trust's patient safety strategy which involves using a human factors approach to improving clinical practices and outcomes.

Hastam has undertaken a detailed analysis of the safety and wellbeing issues, talking to people at all levels in the Trust. This has lead to the development of a new model for assessing and managing the most significant risks, providing a clear focus for improvement. Hastam consultants have designed training modules for managers, supervisors and work teams which will be rolled out over the coming months.  The improvements are being objectively measured.
