During his early career Robin worked in a range of technical and management roles within the petrochemical sector for BP and ICI, within the UK and internationally. He subsequently went on to hold senior roles within the infrastructure management and construction sectors, including Safety, Health and Environment Director positions with several UK Major contractors, including: Morrison, AWG plc, Balfour Beatty and Bovis Lend Lease.
Within these roles he was responsible for both strategic improvement and legal compliance issues. He has been responsible for the investigation and subsequent preparation of several significant contested cases during this period, ranging from personnelfalls, aspects of working at height, building demolition, scaffolding management and structural failure, as well as incidents within the civil, heavy and light utilities (water, sewerage and telecoms) and marine engineering environments.
Robin has a particular construction sector interest within the management of lifts and associated load management, management logistics and plant quality. Following liaison with the HSE specialist groups, leading within these areas, he has undertaken work which assisted in expediting alterations to both HSE ACOP`s and industry accepted practise to assist improvement in selected equipment safety standards.
Latterly, Robin has worked within the specialist area of nuclear decommissioning and development, holding the post of Magnox South HSE Director, as part of the Nuclear Development Agency contract to decommission the UK`s redundant Magnox Nuclear Power Stations. He has a particular expertise in nuclear safety and environmental compliance as it affects the workforce and local environment.
- Investigation and defense preparation for partial collapse of trench in tidal waters during drainage civil engineering operation.
- Investigation and case defense for offloading of unstable building materials during waterworks structure fixing.
- Preparation of case around fatal fall within lift shaft, with particular emphasis upon access and risk profile of work by deceased, as well as implicated public safety concerns raised by HSE.
- Support for individuals being prosecuted over individual actions as management team following plant incidents at two sites. Including evaluation of management practice and practability measures.
- Investigation into forensics and review of operational approach in aftermath of large fire within chemical research laboratory. Preparation of full investigation into arrangements and circumstances leading to fire for company.
- Investigation and review of significant environmental incidents resulting in reduction in EA and SEPA prosecution interest .By presentation of mitigating circumstances successfully removed or mitigated subsequent prosecution(s).
