IOSH Courses

In 1998 HASTAM completely rewrote the Managing Safely and Working Safely courses for IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health).

Based on this experience, we have now developed and launched a new version based on the sound management principles of BS OHSAS 18001.

These courses, which are available through HASTAM, build on the success of the previous versions which were attended by over 100,000 delegates.

Fully revised, the new versions provide a proactive, risk based approach to health and safety management. The four or five day Managing Safely course is a highly cost effective means of providing general health and safety training for managers and supervisors.  It includes both practical and written assessments. Working Safely, a one day course, provides practical health and safety training for employees.  It includes a written assessment.

In-House Courses

HASTAM has wide expertise of delivering in-house courses designed to address client specific needs.  Where appropriate, practical assessments are carried out on the clients’ premises.

Management Training
OHSAS 18001 and Successful Health and Safety Management	A range of seminars and workshops for all levels of management. Based on BS OHSAS 18001 or the HSE’s "Successful Health and Safety Management" supplemented with HASTAM’s Quest management model which provides more detailed guidance on risk assessment and risk control. Sample formats include the following. Half day seminar for Senior Managers introducing the key topics. One day workshops for middle managers concentrating on policy, planning, and review issues. Two day workshops for middle managers adding monitoring and audit to the contents of the one day workshop. Three day workshops for first line managers concentrating on practical implementation. The workshops include sessions on legislation, risk assessment, and risk control techniques.
Training in specific health and safety techniques	Training for those in the organisation who need skill in Risk assessment to meet legal requirements Advanced risk assessment techniques including HAZOP and FTA Accident investigation and the analysis of accident data Monitoring using CHASE Auditing for specialist auditors, particularly for those whose organisations use CHASE.
Employee Training
Structured Tool Box Talks	Practical, competence based training designed to be delivered in one hour sessions by first line managers. Materials include guidance and scripts for deliverers, flip charts for use during delivery, and forms on which participants record their practical work. Training is also available for deliverers if required.
Software Training
HASTAM provides training in the use of its CHASE software products. The courses available include installation and setting up of the software and about two and a half hours training in the operation of the software (maximum of two users). full day course in the use of the software (maximum ten users) advanced techniques (maximum five users).

If possible, these courses are run at the client's premises on their own equipment and using their own data.  However, we can provide facilities in Birmingham if necessary.
