Andrew Reid became a consultant following a 27 year career in the pharmaceutical industry, joining HASTAM in March 2001.
Andrew graduated in 1973, BSc (Hons) and PhD in Chemistry and joined May&Baker Ltd as a Medicinal Research Scientist before moving to Glaxo in 1977. He held a number of technical and managerial positions responsible for process safety, occupational hygiene, hazard and risk prevention and environmental control as well as operational HSE compliance and performance at the companys largest chemical manufacturing site. In 1985 he transferred to a product formulation site as Safety Environmental and Security Manager.
In 1986 Andrew was appointed Group Safety and Loss Prevention Adviser in Glaxos Corporate Risk Management department. Over a fourteen year period the role expanded significantly, and he ultimately became executive manager of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring global strategy, policy and standards on health & safety, environmental management and physical asset protection for Glaxo Wellcomes world-wide network of sites. There was a strong promotional element involving advocacy, public reporting of performance against published five-year objectives and targets and high profile employee reward and recognition programmes.

Andrew has extensive international experience, having undertaken work in all 5 continents. He has chaired international conferences in Mexico City, Madrid and Brussels involving Government ministers and senior EU officials. His professional interests include corporate governance and integrated risk matters, having worked closely with professionals in other risk disciplines including quality, security, insurance/loss provision, occupational health, internal audit and internal control.
Andrews leisure activities include squash, cycling, current affairs and a passion for pre-1970s buses like this magnificent Northern Counties bodied Leyland PD3.
