Professor Andrew Hale Chairman
MA, PhD, C. Psychol, MErgS, FIOSH
Andrew was a full-time Professor of Safety Science at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands from 1984 to 2007. He worked previously at Aston University, Dept. of Health & Safety. He was a founder member of HASTAM.
He is chief editor of the journal Safety Science and has chaired or served on numerous committees at national and European level relating to safety professionals and their training, safety management and transport safety. His research, teaching and consulting work has been concentrated on human behaviour and safety, safety management and culture and the fundamental principles of risk control.
Andrew has recently moved back to live in the UK after spending over 20 years in Delft. He retains a part-time appointment there, and will be commuting back and forth. He is available for work both in the UK and on the Continent.

Mike Vyvyan, Chief Executive

Mike Vyvyan is a psychologist who over the past twenty-two years has successfully undertaken a diverse range of consultancy projects. Assignments have included:
- government training, development and research initiatives
- the introduction of total quality and world class manufacturing methodologies
- management development at executive and board level
- improvements in key business areas including safety
- business turn-around projects.
During this time Mike has managed two consultancy practices and worked in a senior role in a third. Immediately prior to joining HASTAM he was the chief executive of an international consultancy practice. He also has a background of industrial management, having worked for RHM Foods and ICI.

Professor Richard Booth, Director

Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner
Richard is Professor of Occupational Safety and Health and Director of the Health and Safety Unit, Aston University which he joined in 1972. He was a founder member of HASTAM and took over as Chairman in December 1998.
He was a founder-Chairman of NEBOSH and President of IOSH from 1986 to 1988.

Dr Tony Boyle, Director

Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner
Tony started his career with the National Institute of Industrial Psychology in 1969 and was Managing Director and then Chairman of HASTAM from 1987 to 1998. He retired as Chairman of HASTAM to allow more time for his research and development work, but he remains a non-executive Director of the company.
He was the originator of HASTAM’s Complete Health and Safety Evaluation System (CHASE) and has developed audit and evaluation systems for a number of organisations. Current areas of interest include risk assessment, human factors and health and safety management systems, particularly OHSAS 18001.

Sue Hanson, Finance Director and Company Secretary

Having worked as a book-keeper in a variety of organisations, Sue joined HASTAM in 1990, becoming Finance Manager in 1995. In 1996 she joined the Board as  Director of Finance and Administration and Company Secretary.
Sue is responsible for the day to day management of HASTAM’s office and administrative functions and will often be a clients first point of contact.

David Hewitt, IT Director
BSc MSc
David heads the development of the CHASE family of software systems. Wide experience of Personal Computer software applications and programming languages including Microsoft’s Windows, Office and Visual Studio plus Delphi, HTML & Javascript. He joined HASTAM in 1988, becoming IT Director in 1991.

Dr Andrew Reid, Associate Director

Andrew Reid became a consultant following a 27 year career in the pharmaceutical industry, joining HASTAM in March 2001. Andrew has extensive international experience, having undertaken work in all 5 continents. He has chaired international conferences in Mexico City, Madrid and Brussels involving Government ministers and senior EU officials. His professional interests include corporate governance and integrated risk matters.

Wendy Lewis Environmental Manager

Since graduating in Environmental Science in 1976, Wendy has worked in the field of chemical/environmental consultancy, latterly in a self-employed status, and acting as a consultant to HASTAM since 1990. She became Manager of the Environment Division in 1995.
