Having known and worked with Mike for over 20 years it came as a great shock to learn of his illness in 2007.  His death leaves a air of great sadness over the company.  I still treasure memories of discussing HASTAM projects over a pint or two of Old Peculier in the Real Ale Bar of the former Midland Hotel in Birmingham. He will be greatly missed.

Mike employed me 25 years ago when he was with CT Bowring, and some months later employed my future wife, Laura - against my advice, he continued to remind me for years afterwards!.  We are both terribly sad that he lost the battle and both professionally and personally he was a truly great guy.  We will miss him a lot, and our hearts go out to Bridget at this time

It was my pleasure to have benefited from Mike's professional advice and auditing skills.  Later I occasionally met him socially to chat about Scammels and the like as well as work. My thoughts are with Bridget and all his colleagues at HASTAM.  He was truly one of a kind.

I first met Mike in about 1986 when he worked for Bowring I think. He worked with us for many years through HASTAM and with his style and approach at all levels across our organisation he soon built up a reputation of honesty, integrity and trust. On hearing of Mike's death one Director said "he was totally committed to improving peoples lives" and a senior manager said "he will be remembered for his enthusiasm and ability for inspiring others to work differently". We are truly saddened by his loss and our thoughts at this time are with his family and friends.

It is with great sadness that I learned today of the untimely death of Mike.  I first met Mike in 1996 when I began my NEBOSH Diploma training.  His teaching style coupled with a wealth of experience helped me through the infamous NEBOSH examination process and then on to a successful career in health and safety.  In late 2008 I sought Mike’s help when I was faced with a huge challenge in my new role.  Although undergoing treatment, Mike delivered a very robust message to the senior executives which proved to be instrumental in the positive changes that have followed.

My thoughts are with Bridget at this sad time.

Mike was an exceptionally inspiring boss who recruited me to Hastam 20 years ago and taught me just about everything I needed to know about consultancy. He was incredibly supportive of myself and family during this time for which I will always be grateful. He is fondly remembered and sadly missed.  Kay Heard

Mike will be sorely missed by those whose lives he enriched.Mike made what is normally a dry subject of health and safety ,an enjoyable and humorous experience.I knew Mike for nearly 20 years and I will miss his soft tones and friendship as well as our curry nights after a couple of pints of Willy's original. All of his friends at Sythomer ( as well as SAM !!) will miss him and our condolences go to his family, close friends and work colleagues...One of lifes finest....

I worked for Mike as part of the HASTAM office team, many moons ago.  Mike was such a strong character, a force to be reckoned with.  He was professional, determined and focused, with a great sense of humour.  His passion and knowledge for the things he enjoyed was inspiring and infectious.  I recall feeling somewhat humble in Mike's presence on occasion; however he always made me feel important and valued.  I will remember Mike as a boss and a friend, the talks we shared on those airport runs and the occasional office lunch down the pub on a Friday.  I can still hear his cheeky laugh and also his stern voice, when things weren't quite going the way he hoped or wanted!  It is an honour for me to have known Mike, may HASTAM continue to make him proud!!
