Mike devotes much of his spare time to his interest in Scammell Lorries.
He is Chairman of the Scammell Register Committee and edits their Newsletter [www.scammellregister.co.uk]. He was renovating a 1951 Scammell Explorer army recovery lorry, which he has now sold. His current vehicle is a Scammell Crusader 6x4 tractor unit, bought army surplus. "Low, mileage, one careful owner" turned out to be true - 6,349 miles (despite being built in 1976!); the owner - the British Army!
Powered by a Rolls Royce Eagle engine, this 61 tonne gross vehicle was used by the Royal Engineers for the transport of heavy plant. It is waiting for a repaint, but is seen at shows, including this Scammell rally alongside Carters' funfair at Croxley Green.
