Changes made from version 1.1.0
From version 3.6.0 23 May 2008
Improvements to PDA link to include default recommendations.
Bug Fix: Reading .cse files can cause an error if a question has been deleted from a module since the evaluation was created. Evaluation is only partially imported. This has now been corrected.
From version 3.6.0 18 April 2008
Default recommendations now include default priority and timescale.
Answer-only program updated to use above and allow admin details to include personnel.
Bug fix: Analysis export to Excel could under certain circumstances export header information for unselected columns. This is now corrected.
From version 3.5.0 4 September 2007
The Help files re-written for HTML Help for Windows Vista compatibility.
New Add-on to allow evaluations to be completed on a Windows Mobile hand-held device.
From version 3.3.0 1 November 2006
Program name changed throughout from "CHASE for Windows" to "CHASE". Updated splash screen image also included. Minor release number raised to 3.3. (3.2 used for special development and not generally released.). For technical reasons, the program remains "CHASE for Windows" in the Add/Remove Programs function. Help files also updated to reflect this change.
Updates to certain files to improve performance on current operating systems means that Windows 95 can no longer be supported.
Enhancement: The "New Recommendation" window now allows user to view/copy notes and guidance as well as the question text.
Network use: record locking tightened in evaluation and locking messages improved, where they appear.
Spelling Checker upgraded to version 5.0 (from Polar Components).
Some rationalisation of several context menus (right-click menus).
The Users Window could be very slow to update when a large number of areas are present (typically 2,000 or more). This has been improved.
From version 3.1.2 9 August 2006
Enhancement: "History" added to the list of headings available for the Evaluations window (Administrators only).
Bug fix: Importing evaluations failed to import evaluation-level recommendations. Now corrected.
Bug fix: Viewing the Module details in the Editor updated the "Updated date" field, even if no changes made. Now corrected.
From Version 3.1.1 12 July 2006
Enhancement: Font size adjustment. With very high resolution displays become more common many users find the Windows default font size hard to read. An additional Tools>>Customise option has been added to allow font sizes from 8 to 14pt to be used in the editing windows (eg Question text, Guidance, etc). This change does not apply to Windows-generated text (eg menus and error messages) or third party applications used by CHASE - ie Graphics Server and Crystal Reports.
Enhancement: "Record created date" added to Evaluation record. This allows users to filter on date of creation/import in the Evaluations window, irrespective of evaluation date.
Enhancement: Additional spell-check options added to Tools>>Customise.
Bug fix: Evaluation window: Displaying with "Due" not selected and with a "Find" in place where one of the fields in the find criteria was one of the personnel selections, DAO error is reported if Due is selected. Now corrected.
Bug fix: Editor: when filling in the Administration details box pressing Enter closed the box. Now corrected to produce a new line.
Additional error reporting: If the CHASE.MDB file has been made read-only this is now reported as such and not as an "Exclusive access denied" message. Copying CHASE.MDB using a CD-ROM will often mark it as read-only.
From Version 3.0.4 11 April 2006
Bug fix: Printing modules or evaluations - the page break settings in Print options were inadvertently corrupted in version 3.0.1 and the Page break section/question settings were reversed, meaning that when Section was selected, page breaks were inserted after every question and vice versa. Version 3.0.4 corrects this.
From Version 3.0.3 6 March 2006
No change to CHASE functionality but updated Spelling Checker files included to resolve a problem sometimes encountered when pasting text into CHASE where the application would terminate without warning.
From Version 3.0.3 1 December 2005
Bug fix: if “Compliance” selected as a print option when Text answers present in the output, CHASE exited with an Exception error. Now corrected.
Bug fix: if “transposed” selected in Analysis Save and Copy options together with audits that were a mixture of version 3 data and earlier data, the data could be pasted into the wrong columns. Now corrected.
Enhancement: while the problem above was fixed, the opportunity was taken to extend the number of fields that could be saved/copied by adding additional Header and Statistics options to this function.
Bug fix: when starting an unscheduled evaluation, the OK button could be clicked if no module was selected or if the module previously used had been made hidden, causing an error. Now corrected.
Bug fix: when starting an unscheduled evaluation, the OK button could be clicked if no area was selected or if the area previously used had been made hidden, causing an error. Both these problems were related and are now corrected. This bug was unlikely to cause serious problems in practice.
Bug fix: when copying questions from one module to another, if there are tags, the tag settings were not copied when the Tags tab was selected in the source question module and the last displayed question did not have any tags. Now corrected.
Bug fix: copying questions from a version 2 or 3 module into a version 3 module could result in a default answer being set. Now corrected.
Enhancement: ability to set or clear Default answers for a section or whole module.
Recommendations window: some optimisation carried out to improve performance with large numbers of recommendations (typically more than 10,000). As a result there may be a few seconds delay when this window is selected while initial data is loaded.
Evaluations Window: additional fields added to the Column Headings option to allow additional sorting functions. The evaluation list can also be copied to the clipboard allowing data to be transferred easily to other programs, such as Excel, for additional reporting.
From Version 3.0.2 23 September 2005
Requirement for all other users to log off before accessing Users window has now been lifted. Changes cannot be made to logged on users but other users can be edited or deleted.
Bug fix: behaviour of Default answers incorrect for conditional sections. Export to .CSE files also incorrect for same reason. Now corrected.
Bug fix: some excluded areas could be seen by users with restricted area access in the Evaluations window when Due evaluations was ticked. Related to Hidden Areas function and now corrected.
Bug fix: printing of free text answer questions from the module editing window when answer boxes was ticked was incorrect. Now fixed.
Anomalous behaviour: Export of Crystal Reports to PDF running under Windows 2000 sometimes truncated the text in fields that spread over more than one page. Corrected with updated files from InstallShield.

(From Version 2.0.6 8 December 2004)
Word answer definitions can now be copied within the Tools|Define Word Answers option in the Editor. This makes it easier to create groups of word answers that only differ in the percentage assigned to each answer.
Bug fix: Printing a question in an evaluation with a “No/Yes” answer and there is a Not Applicable option, where there was an answer and the user opted to not print either Normal answers or Verified answers, the N/A box was incorrectly printed.
(From Version 2.0.5 5 October 2004)
Users page modified to allow finer control over area access. Holding down Shift or Ctrl while selecting with the mouse changes the access for the selected area only. Without Shift or Control, behaviour is as previously with selections cascading down through child areas.
New question screen modified to resolve an anomaly. If the current default answer is a Word answer from a different module, the answer is undefined. In this instance, a Yes/No answer is now displayed.
A diagnostic information option has been added under the Help menu.
(From Version 2.0.4 20 February 2004)
Analysis Window: occasional scrolling anomaly (keyboard scrolling only) at certain screen resolutions (typically > 1024 x 768) corrected.
Recommendations: change to logic to prevent recommendations that are created in later evaluations from appearing in earlier, completed ones. User privileges changed so that recommendations can only be created in completed evaluations by Administrator or Verifiers. Size of question box in recommendations windows changed to match the width of the standard question box - eliminates some display anomalies.
Tags: Scroll bars added to tag selection boxes to allow viewing of very long tags (typically > 50 characters).
Printing: on occasions, where there were several new sections on a page and the section heading font was larger than the question text font, some text was pushed off the bottom of the page. This has been corrected.
(From Version 2.0.3 11 October 2003)

(From Version 2.0.1 27 July 2003)
Question text now scrollable, allowing questions of more than six lines of text. While we still recommend that questions should be visible in their entirety without scrolling, this restriction has been relaxed to allow clients to use existing questions without modification.
(From Version 2.0.0 26 March 2003)
New Feature: CHASE for Windows now (optionally) incorporates Crystal Reports to enhance the output. This enables formatted reports to be generated from an evaluation which can be printed, exported to other application or e-mailed from within CHASE. Some re-working of other components has been carried out to improve performance and the Installer has also been upgraded for more reliable installations on Win 9x systems.
Please contact HASTAM if you would like to order the upgrade to Crystal Reports.

Create/Read single evaluation files (optional add-on): Users can now select multiple evaluations to create blocks of files and, if reading, can select multiple files to read in one operation. Evaluation Window: Display options are now placed along the top of the window to make changing what is displayed easier and so that the settings are visible at all times.
(From version 1.3.010 - 16 Feb 02)
Bug fix: One user reported problems with Marks answers not correctly updating the question display for one module. Problem could not be reproduced under test conditions but a minor change has been made to the screen updating procedures to ensure this cannot arise under any circumstances.
Users of the Single Evaluation add-on can now create single evaluation files from the File menu within an open evaluation.
(From Version 1.3.009 - 11 Jan 02)
Bug fix: If an Administrator who was also a user with restricted area access created a new area, this area was not always visible to this user. Now corrected.

Bug fix: Pressing Enter key in Edit Word Answer dialogue when answer list is empty causes runtime error. Now corrected.
(From version 1.3.007)
Bug fix: Copying data from an evaluation into other software using the Windows clipboard could pick up recommendations from other evaluations. This has been corrected and, at the same time, addition options added to the Save and Copy options in the Tools menus. These apply to Modules, Evaluations and Recommendations. Some re-working of the copy routines to improve layout when pasted into other applications.
Import data. Option to open another file without closing the Import dialog added.
Installation program changed to InstallShield Express 3.5 to overcome Windows 2000 installation problems.
(From version 1.3.006)
Single-user/standalone version introduced. The necessary changes to Logon screen also included in multi-user version so that, if CHASE has only one user name set up, only the password is requested. If there is no password set, the logon screen is by-passed completely.
Evaluation printing now takes account of answers to conditional sections and does not print questions within the section if the control question has a No answer. However, if answers are not selected in File|Print options, all questions are printed, irrespective of the answer.
(From version 1.3.005)
Additional Import features to allow users to (i) import areas and enforce the areas structure to adopt that in the file being imported and (ii) to exclude the root area of the import file.
Recommendations print and save/copy now includes section name as well as question number.
Graphs can be saved to disk as Windows metafiles or bitmaps.
(From version 1.3.002)

Command line parameter now supports path names with embedded spaces (provided parameter is enclosed in quotation marks).
(From version 1.3.001 - note intermediate version change)
Following compatibility issues with Visual Basic 6 applications, CHASE for Windows has been rebuilt using Microsoft Visual C++ Version 6.0 and an upgraded installation program utilised to conform to Windows 2000 Standards. This version uses newer copies of most of the Windows system DLLs and the Microsoft Jet engine. The functionality of the application itself and its appearance to the end user is unchanged.
(From version 1.2.050)
Bug fix (Editor versions only): When copying questions from one module to another where the questions have word answers, sometimes the word answer is copied to the new module but the question continues to reference the word answer in the original module. This causes problems if the module is then copied to another computer where the original module is not present. In this case the question will default to a percentage answer type.
If this has happened it is corrected by opening the question in the Editor and reselecting the required word answer.
(From version 1.2.049)
When saving to file or copying to clipboard, if "Answer type" is selected, N/A will now be included in the list of answers, if N/A is permitted for a question.
(From version 1.2.048)
Update to Graphics. The Graphics Server program used to display the graphics has been upgraded to version 5.5. Users can now select the required printer at the time of printing the graph. Prior to this, users could only print graphs to the default windows printer. An additional feature is the facility to select one of 24 different colour sets when displaying graphs.
A common problem has been that users do not know (or remember) to complete an evaluation so that they can start the next one. An extra button has been added to the evaluation window to make this operation more obvious. In conjunction with this, the Complete Evaluation dialog has been modified to make it clear to users that they should not carry out this operation until they have answered all the questions. A warning is also given if users continue to use an evaluation after the date the next one is due reminding them they should complete it and start a new one.
The opportunity has also been taken to rationalise some of the terminology.
The terms "Finish" and "Complete" were both used when referring to completing evaluations. All instances of "Finish" or "Finished" have been replaced with "Complete" or "Completed".
The terms "Download" and "Upload" have been found to be confusing, especially as "download" is now often used in reference to the Internet. These terms have been replaced with "Export" and "Import".
(From version 1.2.046)
Summaries can now be renamed in the Evaluations Window.
Sections with no questions are no longer displayed in evaluations.
Bug fix: Save module as... function in the Editor 'remembered' any previous Find settings, even if the Find had been removed, and did not always save all questions in the module to the text file. This is corrected in version 1.2.046.
Bug fix: Sometimes printing an evaluation with notes could cause questions to slip off the bottom of the page. This bug only causes serious problems in modules with a large number of short sections, such that several sections started on the same page. Corrected from version 1.2.046
(From version 1.2.044)
Bug fix: Users with "answer" permission but not allocate permission cannot start a new evaluation from the allocation window, even though they can see it -the error message "Database object is read-only" is given. (There is no problem if the evaluation is started from the Evaluations window.) This has been corrected from version 1.2.044 and these users can now start an evaluation from either window.
(From version 1.2.043)
Improvements to Analysis: Analysis tags can now be inclusive or exclusive making it easier to eliminate sets of questions from the scoring. The Save column list function now saves tag lists and score/compliance settings for each column.

(From version 1.2.040)
Bug fix: When printing recommendations and selecting "include data from most recent evaluation", certain combinations of selected items and evaluation status caused evaluation data not to be printed. This has been corrected.
Minor addition: Analysis Load Evaluations dialog now has a "Group Areas" check box to assist users with a large number of areas.
(From version 1.2.039)

(From version 1.2.037)
Update to Area manipulation. Users with restricted area access now see areas listed in the conventional tree structure in the allocation and area windows. Areas that they must see as part of the tree but do not have access to are shown as grey folders. Administrators with limited area access can create and manipulate areas within those areas to which they have full access.
Related changes to Users Window: Administrators with limited area or module access cannot change area and module settings for other users. New users created have the same area and module access as themselves.
Bug fix: Users can no longer alter their own area and module access settings.
Update to Create Single Evaluation function: Although the Answer program does not support tag functions, evaluations where permanent tags have been set will now only include those questions determined by the tag setting.
Minor changes to the Question window to improve the ease of keyboard input. The tab key and Alt/S for selecting the answer work more effectively.
Change to Analysis: Copy options now include option to include row labels. This now makes it possible to copy the figures only from the table, permitting easy pasting into a spreadsheet already set up with the row and column headings.
Bug fix: Very occasionally, the Maximum flag in analysis was reset while copying data. This has been corrected.
(From version 1.2.036)
Bug fix: If using Word answers, where there is no answer with a zero score in, the list of answers, it is possible that questions in finished evaluations will revert to a percentage answer of zero, if the evaluation is finished without an answer being entered for those questions. Evaluations will now use the lowest scoring answer when finishing an evaluation if a zero answer is not available.
Bug fix: The tendency for mouse clicks over the Area tree in the Allocations Windows to open Allocation dialogues has been suppressed.
Loading Areas: The load areas dialogues now include a "Group areas" check box and horizontal scroll bars.

Recommendations. Improvements to multiple selection routines to speed up processing of large numbers of recommendations.
(From version 1.2.031)
Users can place a Windows Bitmap image file called CHASE.BMP in the CHASE program directory. This will be displayed when the program starts instead of the default image. This permits users to customise CHASE to display their own company logos, etc. The image should be in the range 240 to 480 pixels high and 320 to 640 pixels wide.
Recommendations. Users can now view and/or print data from the most recent recommendation.
